SAG Awards: ‘Birdman’ Soars & ‘Orange Is The New Black’ Shines


Fox Searchlight’s Birdman made it two nights in a row for a top honor, taking home the SAG Awards’ cast ensemble award that stands as the guild’s closest award to the Oscar Best Picture. The win tonight over awards-season rivals Boyhood, The Grand Budapest Hotel, The Imitation Game and The Theory Of Everything puts the Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu-directed quirky comedy in the driver’s seat for the Best Picture Academy Award, after winning the PGA Awards’ top honor on Saturday.

UzoOn the TV side, Netflix’s Orange Is The New Black scored a couple of Actor trophies, taking the Comedy Ensemble and Outstanding Actress awards for Uzo Aduba, who plays Crazy Eyes in the prison-set series. Netflix had a good night, as House Of Cards‘ Kevin Spacey won the top drama series actor award.
