Arrow is back! The CWs adaptation of the DC comic books hero Green Arrow is back in its 3rd season and I couldn’t be more excited! Arrow stars Stephen Amell (as Oliver Queen/The Arrow), Katie Cassidy (as Laurel Lance), David Ramsey (as John Diggle), Willa Holland (as Thea Queen), Emily Bett Rickards (as Felicity Smoak), Colton Haynes (as Roy Harper/Red Arrow), John Barrowman (as Malcolm Merlyn), and Paul Blackthorne (as Quentin Lance). The premiere picks up from last season where we saw Oliver take down his nemesis Slade Wilson AKA as Deathstroke (played by Manu Bennett) and lock him up in an ARGUS facility on a remote island. The third season starts a few months after that event and we see Starling City’s crime rate at an all time low thanks to Oliver and his team and we see Quentin who has become the new chief of the police finally declare The Arrow as a hero rather than a vigilante. Oliver now feels that he can finally balance his double life as The Arrow and Oliver Queen and tries to accomplish that by asking Felicity out on a date (#OLICITY is the best thing ever!) which she agrees to. Meanwhile, we see a new villain emerge and turns out to be the new Count Vertigo (played by Peter Stormare) and he targets The Arrow. Olicity’s date does not go as planned when the Count fires a rocket into the restaurant where he believed The Arrow was located. Now doubting that he can balance his double life, Oliver tracks down the Count. Oliver has difficulty trying to take him down when he’s injected with a drug that makes him hallucinate his worst nightmare and he hallucinates his normal self and struggles to fight it. It seems impossible for him to defeat the Count but when Black Canary/Sara Lance (played by Caity Lotz) surprises us with her appearance, she helps Oliver take down the Count. Now the end of this episode left me in complete shock because it was so unexpected and a “I can’t believe the writers just did this” moment. We see Sara catching up with her sister Laurel and when Laurel leaves, a mysterious archer appears that we can’t see but Sara immediately recognizes, and he FUCKING KILLS HER BY SHOOTING HER WITH THREE ARROWS THAT KNOCK HER OFF THE ROOF AND LANDS IN FRONT OF HER SISTER!! I couldn’t believe it. The fact that they killed off yet another pivotal character made me realize that Arrow isn’t fucking around. I’m not going to lie, this may be my favorite show on television right now. The cast is awesome, the writing is great, and the action is fucking fantastic (if this season doesn’t get an Emmy nomination for stunt coordination I’m going to be livid). I’m also really happy that the show is gaining popularity outside its CW viewers and being seen as great show by many. This premiere delivered on every level, and definitely set up to what will likely be the best season to date. For those wondering whether they should start watching Arrow, then stop wondering and start this show because it is truly amazing. The first and second seasons are up on Netflix and everyone basically has Netflix now or uses a friends’ account so you should start now, I promise you will not be disappointed, every episode delivers!
Season 3 Premiere Rating: 9.6/10
